CROCHET PROJECTS

How did I get started?

How did I learn to crochet in the first place? Well, my mom taught me how when I was in kindergarten in Hong Kong. We had to explore something that we wanted to do as a personal project and there was a group that did knitting. I did knit at first, but when I forgot to mark which side I was working on for my project, I found that knitting was harder than I anticipated. I turned to my mom, and she introduced me to crochet! It's the same flavor as knitting, but with a singular hook rather than working with two needles. She taught me the basic stitches like single crochet, double crochet, and how to make a chain. She only knew how to make doilies which she learned from her mother, so you can say I'm carrying over a family tradition.

One of My First Documented Projects: a Dog Blanket

The first picture that you see here is me a bit later crocheting a dog blanket for my toy poodle Ginger. I had to search up how to do the color changes on YouTube, which proved tricky because the edges ended up like crooked teeth. But this was one of my few projects where I honed my skills of the basics like working in the rows and where to start the next one. it was safe to say, that my dog appreciated it, she didn't say that, but I knew that she did.

My First Bag

Soon after that blanket, I got glued to my rocking chair that I have at home and started to create. I saw this tutorial on how to make a heart granny square tote bag. It was my first bag, and you can see that was apparent. The hearts weren't even, and attaching the squares were awkward, but it was something. In hindsight, I should've made the strap shorter, because it just stretched and stretched to my knees.
